During the Meiji era 19thc, Kato Senpachi
decorated porcelain with Kato Shubei, to whom he was
related. He become known for making Seto porcelain
tea sets (coffee sets) for the export trade. Around 1850, Senpachi
had his own business named Hogyokuen (宝玉園). Senpachi sometimes signed his porcelain wares that included his business name Hogyokuen. Kato Senpachi signature is noted on the website E-Yakimono under Seto Markings. The mark translates as Hogyokuen Senpachi sei (宝玉園仙八製). |
